San Carlos Bay Sail & Power Squadron
Local Waters - Local Charts

The Local Waters class is directed toward new boaters and boaters new to the area, as well as those who wish to learn chart reading. It will provide the boater with some of the basics of navigation, oriented to the Ft. Myers area. Students will learn how to read a chart and focus on gaining experience using chart 11427. The students will spend more than 50% of the class time doing these exercises. The class is 3½ hours long and does not require membership in the Squadron.

Students will learn how to read a chart, understand the meaning of daymarks, and informational signs. We will discuss some of the hazards to navigation in our area (like traffic and shoaling) and some of the features of the area (restaurants, marinas, and picnic spots).

We will use chart 11427 and you must bring yours to class! We will use the chart to find specific features, plot routes, and find locations.
